About Julian Wigley



Julian Wigley (1943-) Australia.

Architect, painter, cartoonist, filmmaker and writer, was born in Adelaide son of painter James V Wigley. Held his first solo exhibition in 1974 at the Ewing Gallery, Melbourne University, showing sequential drawings, looped film projections and kinetic sculptures. He pursued his interest in sequential drawings with the publication of pictorial chronicles of Northern Australia and cartoons. He has held several solo exhibitions and made several animated films using pastel on paper, sand and digital drawings on an Amiga. His works are included in private, public and institutional collections.

Mediums include painting, black and white art and screen based media. Wrote and illustrated a number of books on Aboriginal conditions in the Northern Territory with his partner Barbara Wigley.

His new media savvy sons, Luke and Cass Wigley introduced him to Brushes and the Ipod touch, which he now carries with him everywhere. Contributes to the Flickr finger painting community. He is currently working on a Comic opera.
