The Australian Year of the Rat begins

Posted on

The Year of the Rat is bringing its changes- we have John Howard gone, for now, and Mullet, of the Victorian police union is placed under the hammer, all in a couple of months. Then, there is the hijacker, just today, attempting a takeover of a New Zealand airplane by stabbing the two pilots- something wrong there. And Australia’s infamous Pacific Solution winds back. And, not in the least, our government talks strong with banks. Not to mention the forthcoming [...]

No one seems perturbed that this is a private company, Gardline, is payed to protect our borders let alone the issue of global serfdom.

A group of sacked workers who have been refusing to leave an Australian Customs boat moored in Darwin look set to get their jobs back after a meeting between the union and the boat’s owner…more

John Howard’s come back rebuffed.

John Howard looks to his legacy. As Paul Keating said “We all won’t be safe until a wooden stake is applied”, or words similar. Mr Howard’s office denied that he had put his name forward for the vacant position of Liberal party president. Rumour has it that it’s a Victorian, with eyebrows larger than John Howard’s and Robert Menzies , who will get the job. It’s good to see some important traditions maintained.

If it’s not freeways it’s wires:

The critical issue is not how fast it (broadband) goes into people’s houses it’s how fast it runs across the country and the speed of backbone data links for commercial service providers..(quote Gauvin)

Federal election 2007

Political landscapes.

This election drags on and on and our county’s meaning continues to be dragged lower. There are supporters of the Lindsay Liberal candidate who think the Bali bombing is something to make jokes about. Will this “pamphlet” dogwhistle work for the Liberals in the marginals but damage them elsewhere? Whereas The gamblers are backing Labor. Meanwhile Australians are dying in conflicts made by PP’s.

The Liberals/conservatives know that John [...]

Liberal campaign dirty tricks exposed: Campaign Dirty Trick 1 and Dirty Trick 2 . How many more have not grabbed the headlines, that operate in the atmosphere of the unthinking or disinterested? This recent Lindsay smear has the headlines. Mr Howard sits pretty claiming no knowledge of this matter, whilst the smear plays out in the marginals.

Meanwhile, drama on the high seas once again, like some worn script, ignoring human suffering. HMAS Ararat take on board refugees.

Heard someone say America has only one political party but it has two faces. Sounds familiar.

These Christian politicians are complex characters, or just nasty, arrogant or inflicted with righteous contempt for others? Abbott’s bad day behaviour is habitual.

Animation and its inner spirit

090607 Animation and inner spirit: Some thoughts: I am curious about the visual aesthetic evolving in mainstream 3D computer generated animated imagery ? where computer constructed ‘actors’ generally lack a sensitivity in their surface/skin (no inner spirit?) and character design has a sameness across productions, and where movements become predictable- any clever complicated movement soon becomes tiresome because of the underlying visual construction. (The Pierce Sisters is a recent break with this established trend…link is http://www.aardman.com/pearcesisters/clip2.html)

I contrast this with 2D hand drawn animation that always contains the quirkiness of their makers, this quirkiness imbues character inside the ‘actors’ and [...]
