Immoral
Niccolò Machiavelli (1469-1527) argued the incompatibility between Christian values of a virtuous and moral person, and the behavior required to wield power in the real world. Machiavelli suggested that a successful politician has to practice the art of hypocrisy whilst appearing moral to the citizenry.
His conclusion is based on his observation that people behave in shortsighted ways that menace other peoples survival and the health of the planet as a whole. Machievelli wanted a civil society that was based on civic duties and liberty- not a society dominated by small unaccountable elites, who through their political parties, expend their power ensuring re-election and support to big business over the common good.
