I have been writing a memoir over the past few years, initially titled Catch Him by His Name. It began as a film script before growing into a 150,000-word manuscript that would eventually become three books: Malahide: A House of Many Homes; Jim: An Australian Boy; and Wigley Waterhole: Country and the Politics of Shelter in Central Australia.
For me, the writing was partly an indulgence, but also a necessary act of recording: to capture times past, put names to photographs, and offer a glimpse of what once was so it is not forgotten.
Malahide, is likely destined for the family archives, but here is a glimpse of the working draft.
